AmazonFresh Cuts Back to ‘Select Zip codes’

             Amazon recently announced in The Settle Times that they would be “narrowing the range of its AmazonFresh grocery delivery program, cutting service in at least nine states”. Economically, AmazonFresh has had major difficulties. Amazon is trying to balance the cost of the service with consumers, many of whom are already paying a yearly fee.

           Since Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods over the summer, many supermarket chains are making changes to acclimate to the new competition. Amazon’s entering into the grocery-retail space is impactful due to the breath of Amazon’s capabilities.

        In an article entitled, Grocery Wars: Supermarkets face new challenges as consumers shop around, Joan Verdon outlines that now, more so than ever, consumers are using the “shop-around” method of supermarket buying. Gone are the days where someone went to one store once a week for the families shopping in a one stop fashion.

             Local supermarkets are constantly competing for the extra edge; one way some grocery stores are staying above the competition is with a wide variety of specialized meats cut on premises. ShopRite published an article in The Record, highlighting their stores meat department.
