AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI - TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2021

SHORTAGE OF ADEQUATE WORKERS

President Niccollai reported today that as Frontline Employees in the Food Industry, we are experiencing an inability by some of our Union Employers to properly staff departments.  This situation is occurring because of several factors:

First, there are people still fearful of returning to work because of COVID-19 issues.

Second, workers, especially women, are unable to return to the job because they have children not fully attending school on a daily basis.

Third, the Federal Government has established Unemployment Benefits which may exceed what an employee could earn on the job.

In an attempt to combat this present crises some of our Employers, without any Union discussion or input, are exploring modifying wage rates on a store location basis in order to attract workers.  This policy is violative of our Union Contract and, further, is discriminatory.

Obviously, your Union has no objection to members earning more money, in fact, we welcome it but it must apply equally throughout the Company and should not be reduced by a decision of Management once granted.

UFCW Local 464A is available to working with Management in discussing this issue and helping to achieve a resolution which does not violate our Contract, is fair and equitable to all.

WORK SMARTLY – WORK SAFELY!
