IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI, FRIDAY, JUNE 6, 2025
REGARDING MAJOR EMPLOYER CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
President Niccollai reported today that the first negotiating meeting concerning a new contract with ShopRite, Stop and Shop, Kings, Foodtown, DeCicco and other independent employers was held yesterday, June 5, 2025, at the Best Western hotel in Fairfield, New Jersey. The members comprising our Contract Committee are as follows: Kevin Thomas, ShopRite; Francis D. Sawyer, ShopRite; Kevin Remus, ShopRite; Mark Orlando, ShopRite; Yasmin Watson, ShopRite; John Korin, III, Stop and Shop; Lisa McNerney, Stop and Shop; Daniel R. Dolce, Kings; Kevin L. Jenkins, Kings; and Fred Baram, Nicholas Markets. In addition to the individuals comprising the member Contract Committee, the Union Officers and certain staff members were also in attendance to serve as part of the total Union Committee. There were approximately 20 individuals comprising the companies’ negotiating committee consisting of attorneys, consultants, human resources staff and operations staff.
The purpose of this initial meeting was to lay out the procedural format regarding the Union’s negotiating team and to present and discuss with management the Union demands being presented. The meeting lasted several hours with President Niccollai reviewing and explaining in detail the Union demands as submitted by the membership.
We anticipate that the employers will now caucus among themselves and be prepared at the next meeting to discuss in detail our demands as presented. We are unaware at this point as to whether the employers will have counterproposals but we anticipate that counterproposals will be presented. The employers indicated that they are unable to meet next week so our second meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Best Western hotel in Fairfield.
We will continue to keep the membership informed as to our progress as we proceed.
