UFCW Strives to Organize Wal-Mart Workers

In its April 17, 2009 edition The Wall Street Journal reports that the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) has intensified its efforts to organize workers at Wal-Mart stores across the U.S. The story quotes Wal-Mart spokespersons who indicate that, "We have noticed that the UFCW has been working harder lately in its attempts to get Wal-Mart associates to sign union cards."

It also reported that approximately 60 UFCW Organizers have been sent to more than 100 Wal-Mart stores in 15 states. In addition, an estimated 100 pro-union Wal-Mart workers are planned to be sent to Washington DC by UFCW International to lobby members of Congress to support the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).
