Stop & Shop Launches ‘Healthy Ideas’ Labeling System
Stop & Shop has unveiled a new labeling system to help consumers identify those foods that are healthiest under U. S. Department of Agriculture and other federal guidelines. The system, called ‘Healthy Ideas’, distinguishes approximately 3,000 store products and produce items with bright green and blue labeling.
Stop & Shop V.P. of Consumer Affairs, Andrea Astrachan, said, “The new program was created because consumers have said they want something to be a sole source for determining whether one food item is healthier than another.”

Products that carry the new label have less fat or cholesterol than other products in the same category. These products also include at least one good nutrient source such as fiber, protein or calcium. The ‘Healthy Ideas’ program is not intended to help consumers lose weight.
