There is no more powerful tool to advance your well-being and that of your fellow workers than to get personally involved with the American political process by speaking out for initiatives that will make your life better. Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) Send your Letter or E-Mail to Washington NOW!
UFCW Local 464A is committed to positions that improve job security, wages, health care benefits and financial protections in retirement. Today these cornerstones of your prosperity are being eroded by special interests that are driving the American political process solely for their own benefit, not ours.
Improvements for American workers are best achieved through unified action. EFCA, which was reintroduced in the U. S. House and Senate in early March, 2009, would restore workers’ freedom to join a union. However, business interests such as the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and their lobbyists are mounting a firece campaign to to defeat passage. UFCW Local 464A members together with their families and friends are urged to write their representatives in Congress to demand their vote for this vital legislation. It is critical that you do your part by acting NOW. See our sample correspondence. Simply cut and paste it into a letter and/or e-mail to your Senators and Congressman.

Dear (Insert Senator or Congressman Name):
I write to you today to urge your support for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). The near destruction of the U. S. economy by policies that favor short term profit seeking and inadequate regulatory oversight must now be remedied on all fronts by governmental action that restores economic equality to America’s middle class. One of the most important ways to do this is to cast your vote for EFCA.
Union members in the United States earn wages that are 30% more than non-union workers. They are 59% more likely to have employer-provided health care. And, most notably, the mere presence of a large union workforce in a geographical area improves wages and benefits for non-union workers in that same region. As you consider your vote for this vital legislation I want you to ask yourself an important question: Can you, as an elected official who automatically benefits from generous publicly funded health care and pension protections along with regularly rising pay, fairly and honestly deny those same benefits to your fellow citizens? If you do not support EFCA with your vote that is exactly what you will be doing.
The arguments against the rights that EFCA will afford Americans are hypocritical scare tactics intended to hide these simple truths. In a free society workers should be able to vote on paper to become members of a collective bargaining unit. They should have the right to expect that their collective bargaining unit will be recognized by their employer and negotiated with in a fair and timely manner. These rights do not threaten America, they strengthen our country by reinvigorating a middle class long decimated by the relentless pursuit of short-term profit and personal gain by a select few.
Speak out in support of EFCA. Vote for EFCA. Do right by the Americans who voted for you.
Signed,
